I totally forgot about this blog. Between my project, papers, FESIM kongress, WC-FESIM, Chenli ministry, gym and Italian trip, my time has been packed with quite a lot of stuff to do. Interestingly, I still have the time to watch tv series. hmmm....
Anyway. Just hopping by to check if this blog still existed (duh!). Later I'll write something of actual content. Or maybe not. (haha)
So I'm back again. This time, I will be giving it my best to update this blog on a regular basis. Let's just hope that this time around, my workload doesn't hinder me from blogging here.
Basically, it's a combination of campus and ministry workloads that prevents me to post things here for the previous 8-10 months or so. I still have the same workloads, if not increased, now, but I do want to start writing once again.
Anyways, this one post will be short, as there's some things that I need to take care of at the moment. I wish the new design is easier to read.
Oh, and just a trivia. It appears that Mr. Budi Soehardi, who I wrote a post quite a while back posted some shoutout while I was away. =) You can see that post in this link.
Yesterday's was my twenty-third birthday. I was sharing with my friends over my place on Sunday night, without realizing that they prepared a surprise party for me (that is, until nearing the midnight where some of them are acting a bit strange ;p). Anyway, I guess I am happy that I can spend my birthday with those who I regard as closest friend here in Singapore. It was cool. Thanks for the sharing and the surprise party.
Now, after one tiring day of writing comment on facebook wall due to the enormous amount of my friends who congratulate me via facebook, I did some reflections as usual. I reflect back at the previous year, the highlights and lowlights. Let me share with you some of them:
On my life vision, I am still sure about taking further studies and, God permits, becoming a lecturer. I just love working among students. Even though right now I am feeling very happy working in my company, old aspirations die hard. However, I have to admit that I do take some time to consider about continuing in professional field as an engineer. The door is still open for both. I have some ideas about it, but am still waiting for God's confirmation. Hoping to settle everything in three years time.
On my ministries, After five year exploring campus and church ministries, I have found what I think I wanted to do. I am still passionate about campus ministries and will run back with haste if I can contribute something. It's not that I don't want to serve in church, but I think that is my calling. But I won't stop ministering in church - it's just that I will focus my hearts on it. What I want to do? Maybe something that is closely related to me, teaching, equipping and leadership development.
On KTB, I have to say that we are at a crossroad right now, with Kentank going to final year next semester and the other three is (forced?) to seriously consider their future ministries. The previous year has been cool though. I have seen how some of them grow significantly, and discussions inside the group is increasingly getting interesting. There are still a lot of space to develop, but I'm satisfied, so far. Bru, if you're reading this, it does not mean that you can relax. I'm satisfied, but I'm barely satisfied. haha.
On relationship with others, I still think that I need to work out more on this part. period. being a phlegmatic-melancholic who were converted into choleric-melancholic is not.. easy.
On that side of relationship... ...errr.... Still clueless as usual I guess hahaha... But I have decided to spent 2009 in singleness after my last relationship. And guess what, it was a blessed experience, being able to explore more. I thank God for the year =).
On personal development, I think that I'm too focused on church history last year. I need to learn more on Christian Leadership and Bible Expository. On professional/academic side, learned a lot about SIM Card here in my work so I guess it's enough.
On personal relationship with God, this one is still tricky, roller-coaster as always. First half of my 22nd was dry, but the second was more encouraging. I do hope I can grow more in the future. I have to work on my recurring bad-habit though.
I'm going to be an uncle in 5 months time. duh.
I'm still as clumsy as ever.
My mouth is still getting the better of me.
I really enjoyed my work so far =)
Money spending... some said that I overspend my money, but on my side of things, I'm still on track of my saving plan that I decided after I graduate. And it was not an easy target. So... no, I don't agree with them. Haha.
At least I managed to stabilize over 67-69 over the year. Want to drop it to around 65. lol.
Now, I guess I need to start thinking about what I want to do next year.. I'll post that tomorrow. =)
Thanks to those who give their regards yesterday. I felt the blessings of the Lord through you.
Yes! The portfolio link in this blog is now accessible. I used wix.com to make things simpler as I don't have the necessary skills to do it from scratch haha.. But please pardon the high level of narcissism in the pages, as I don't know what to put =P. There should be one more tab after CV to put some files, but I decided to deactivate it for now as it would take some time to collect those file that I want to upload..
So I guess this is it for this year revamp of my blog =D.
So, after a month or so in hiatus, I proudly present to you "Let there be light!" Vershun 3.0. Do give me your feedback on the new layout since I haven't validated the whole thing.. yet. Oh, and the "portfolio" link in the navigation bar doesn't have any content right now, so it will only redirect you to the "about" page. Other than that, it should be working just fine =). I'm trying to work on the portfolio in the immediate future, but finger crossed on when it will be finished. It will be Version 3.1 when it is released though ;)
I'm still on holidays right now, so I got a lot of time to spare. So when the rod is hot, I think I'll do whatever I can to make this blog a bit livelier than the 2.0 version =)
Anyway... can anyone tell me how to link this blog to Twitter? hahaha...
As what the title say, I have to put this blog on hiatus for the time being =S. As my work and commitments are getting the better of me currently. *sob* -- I'm still living my life happily though, just that i have less free time lately ;)
Anyway, I hope to be able to start writing normally again by Chinese New Year. Let's hope I can light the candle again around then =)
I made some additional pages to the blog.. So now you can see my short bio, contact details and a guestbook on the top navigation bar of the blog. Not that it was a very important addition, but at least I wanted to make the blog a little bit serious.
So it seems that I need to introduce myself more properly in my blog from now on.
Hi! My name is Kristo, I was born in Jogjakarta, Indonesia on the 8th of March 1987. I am the youngest of two brothers, and currently I am doing my trade in Singapore. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Nanyang Technological University, researching in large database image recognition. I graduated from Nanyang Technological University as a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 1st class honours (and thank God for it). I worked in Gemalto as a software engineer for a year before pursuing my PhD. My hobbies consists of reading books (basically on Christianity, History and Science) Mathematics, Gaming, Soccer, Juventus FC, Joking, Sleeping, Culinary, Joking again, and Nature.
This blog was made on March 11th, 2008 and amazingly, it is still running up until now. Well, basically this blog will be posting about topics that I learned in my journey as a follower of Christ, my personal point of view, and my reflections. I know it seems strange for an Indonesian to write in English; I wanted my friends who can't speak Indonesian to be able to read my post here as well, plus, I would also be able to hone my writing skills in English. But please do excuse me if you found a lot of errors in my English.
P.S. should you be the owner of any proprietary items I used in this blog, and if you feel that I need to remove them, please do contact me through my email, and I will remove it directly. I do apologize for any inconvenience made.
The author of this blog will be away from 29th of May to 10th of June. There will be updates as long as I got a decent internet connection. lol. Wait until after 10th of June for screenshot of my new home in Jurong West =)
I'm going to have my final assesment for my undergrad life tommorow... the FYP presentation. I'm a little bit nervous right now-- thanks to my supervisor who said to me: "I think your presentation should be okay- I'm not worried about you". You're not the one worried sir.. I am..
LOL
But thankfully there are a lot of friends who gave me inputs and opinion.. so I do hope I can rehearse and test my slides before the presentation tommorow.. maybe tonight.. after workshop =)
I never shared about my FYP in this blog right? I guess I'll talk about it for a while..
Did you ever wonder what takes the most of our brain to do? It's our vision ability. Or.. at least that's what I heard.. For you people who study biology, please correct me if I'm wrong. So, back to human vision system, did you ever wonder how we are able to process those images we see from our eyes, recognize the difference between an apple and a picture of an apple? Have you ever wondered how we are able to tell easily whether a person in running, walking or jumping? Consider the video of two person dancing below. You can directly recognize the two individuals, their body parts and what they are doing right?
Our vision system is one of the most complicated mysteries to researchers who want to imitate it inside a computer. So far, computer vision technique has been attracting a large number of researchers, with debatably small or mediocre breakthrough.
My project, or you can say, my research is to create a system which is able to process a video sequence of two people interacting with each other, tracking the body parts of each individuals. These information will then be used to cross reference with a database of activites to recognize what activity they are doing...
Sounds simple right? But it was not as simple as that.. Gosh.. It took me a lot of time to grasp the original system, not to mention trying to improve it... But I managed to do it.. somehow.. thanks to His blessings.. =)
The system diagram is shown below..
So basically each frame in the sequence will undergo 5 steps: Background subtraction where the individuals will be extracted, followed by pixel color classification to cluster the pixel based on colors as blobs, Relaxation labeling for simplifying the blobs, then blob tracking and finally, grouping of blobs based on their body parts.. in total I managed to type around 80 pages worth of MATLAB code.. And it will run for fourteen hours when I click the button "execute".
Yes - 14 hours. For an 8 seconds video.
That's why now I'm really amazed with the gift God gave us.. We've taken too many things for granted, but after working on this project I really am humbled. True science and knowledge should bring us closer to our Maker, the Lord our God - not throw us away from Him =)
I managed to improve the original algorithm as well. I did a lot of modification and the errors are down by almost half.. Thanks to the idea of my supervisor and God's guidance =). The original paper is written by S. Park and J. K. Aggarwal, titled ‘Simultaneous tracking of multiple body parts of interacting persons’. Google it if you want. You'll find it.
So to close the post.. let me show you the final output ifI used the earlier video sequence. Different color shows different body parts. It looks crappy, I know, but I'm very happy I got this result even though I know it looks crappy haha..
Let there be light!
By the way.. if you're interested, you can come to my presentation. 5th of May 2009 @TR90 NTU, 14.30 pm.
Probably it's time for me to go back to blogging after more than one semester break.. I hope I will be able to go back to blogging constantly again.. haha.. This blog has been very useful to me for taking notes of the events surrounding my life, and my journey with God =)
So.. With the newly found spirit of blogging, I think I could use a new look to the blog as a motivation boost =P... I'm a beginner in blogging so I'm sorry if there's a lot of mistakes here and there... especially when the title is more than one line.. (really.. i am amazed that the design maker missed this thing -__-')
Sooo.... with this... Let there be light, once again!
I can't believe i'm starting a blog too haha.. oh well..
"Let there be light!" is the word that God said when He created the world- Light is the first thing that he created, and He saw that the light was good (Gen 1:3-4, NIV). Jesus, is the way and the truth and the life- no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). He is the light, that shows us the way, shows us the truth. Yet, He calls us, His followers, to be the light of the world, a light that shines not under the bowl, but on its stand, so that it gives light to everyone in the house-- the world! (Mat 5:14-15)
"Let there be light!" is my oath. It's our calling -no- we are lights. This blog is here to help you and me to strengthen our light. To show light. To let the light be known.
And so the blog starts today--
"Let there be light!"

There was a time when I lost my desire to write and to share. There was a time when I didn't see the point of doing a blog to express my thought. I am who I am though, inconsistent as I am in doing this blog, but I do want to share and I do long to write. Today I'm giving it another go. Fingers crossed. But I still wish that "Let there be light" is the message that I convey.
